November 16, 20222 min read

ER Spaulding is a mentor of one of the hosts of Power of 52 Podcast. This incredible woman has dedicated her time to supporting career women through their entrepreneurial journeys. She specializes in promoting cash flow in businesses and quickly at that. ER is also the founder of Black Woman Startup.

Where She Came from and What Inspired Her

ER’s parents were what she refers to as brown collar workers when they started their family. Her father worked for UPS and her mother worked as an administrative assistant. However, as their family grew, so did their motivation for education and over time, her parents gathered impressive educational degrees.

Her father has a Juris Doctorate degree and a Doctorate in Education. Her mother also has a Doctorate in Education. The drive of her parents inspired her from a young age. She recalls a memory in which her friends would get paid for achieving high scores on their report cards and she asked her parents if they would also pay her for generating good grades.

Her father’s response? Not so favorable.

My dad looked at me and he was like, ‘Oh, really? Is that what they do over there?’....He was like, ‘Excellent. Is the minimal standard. You don't do anything else in the house, you don't work, you don't cook. Your job is to be an excellent student.’ I was like, ‘Oh, okay’. - ER Spaulding on the expectations set for her.

Out of school, ER decided to go into a non-feminine job role, which provided her with some challenges. She worked in Operations and Project Management in tech and engineering. Here, she spent time trying to break through the glass ceiling as she existed in a male-dominated industry. Then, she worked herself into a VP position where she was able to communicate and negotiate and learn valuable skills.

These skills all pointed her in the direction of being an entrepreneur, which is what she ended up successfully pursuing. Now, she works to help other women get their businesses to a profitable and successful state.
